sajda

Out of the five pillars of Islam we find that the word Salat is the most frequently mentioned of the five. The word Salat is mentioned a total of 67 times in the Quran.

The Salat provides the nourishment needed by our souls and is a sure method of attaining righteousness and nearness to our Creator. The Quran lists a number of benefits attained from observing the Salat:

1The Salat protects believers from evil and vice:

(29.45) Observe the Salat, for the Salat prohibits vice and evil

2The Salat strengthens our belief and make us attain certainty:

(15.98-99) Therefore, you shall glorify your Lord singing His praise, and be among the prostrators and worship your Lord until you attain certainty.

3The Salat (along with charity) is the best investment in the hereafter:

(35.29-30) Those who recite God’s book, observe the Salat and spend secretly and publicly from what We have provided for them, are seeking a trade that can never lose. He will grant them their reward and increase them out of His generosity. He is Forgiving, Appreciative.

4Above all, the Salat is to commemorate God:

Surely, the most important objective of the Salat is to commemorate God.

(29.45) You shall recite what is revealed to you of the book and observe the Salat, for the Salat prohibits vice and evil and the remembrance of God is the most important. God knows what you do.

(20.14) I am God, there is no god but Me, therefore you shall worship Me and observe the Salat to commemorate Me.
